Typography
Story Sans is a new typeface family designed for Trade Me by Klim Type Foundry, and is licensed exclusively for use by Trade Me. Story Sans is a screen-first, grotesque typeface aligned to our brand, values and tone of voice.

Guide to using Story Sans
Sentence case
Do: Always use sentence case. Only use a capital letter at the beginning of the sentence or for a proper noun.
Don't: Avoid using all caps. We’re an enthusiastic bunch but our type should also convey our humble and friendly tone of voice.
Spacing
Do: Use the default spacing between characters to help ensure the text is clearly readable.
Don't: Don’t play with the kerning. Tight spacing between letters makes text nearly impossible to read.
Proportions
Do: When scaling text, make sure to scale the text box evenly. Keep the same height and width ratios.
Don't: Our typeface isn’t squishy or stretchy – avoid uneven sizing.
Sizing
Do: Setting a body copy size? Make sure it’s legible. No less than 14pts for web or 9pts for print.
Don't: Anything less than 14pts for web or 8pts for print is not kind on the reader’s eyes!
Colour contrast
Do: Check your type has sufficient color contrast. This helps ensure the type is clear and legible to as many of our users as possible. See the accessibility section for more information.
Don't: Don’t use low colour contrast as it makes type difficult to read. Make sure all type meets WCAG colour contrast guidelines.
Fallback fonts
Our brand typeface ‘Story Sans’ is always our first choice when it comes to type. However, if you can’t use Story Sans, our fallback fonts are your next best option.
Helvetica
Can’t use Story Sans? Helvetica is your next port of call. Helvetica is the first fallback font for all of our web products and marketing collateral.
Arial
Story Sans & Helvetica not available? Arial is the next best option. Arial is mostly used as the fallback font in our web products.
Roboto
Roboto is the system font for Android, therefore we use it in all Trade Me Android apps. We also use it for any company collateral in Google docs and Slides.
San Francisco
San Francisco is the system font for iOS and is used in all Trade Me iOS apps.
